Is not often enough that people take the time out to praise a company for their good customer service

, but it's also not that often that you get exceptional service.

I was lucky to receive some exceptional customer service recently from Michelin, the global tyre brand.  The company have expanded their range and make a variety of lifestyle products, like the portable tyre compressor I own.  About 2 years ago I managed to lose the screw in end to the cigarette lighter connector that contains the fuse, but could never bring myself to throwing away, what was essentially a fully functioning device.

A couple of weeks ago I was surfing the Michelin website and spotted a number for customer services, which I thought I'd call on the off chance of being able to purchase the required spare part.  The call was promptly answered be a very polite and helpful lady, who obviously knew her product line well and quickly identified the exact parts I needed.  I was quickly asked for an address to send the parts to and apologised to that we had missed the post for next day delivery.  The call was so well and quickly handled that, it wasn't until I'd hung up that I realised I hadn't needed to hand over any credit card details.

Sure enough 2 days later a small jiffy bag landed on my doormat with a polite note thanking me and the required parts.  Now, the parts probably cost pence to make and the postage isn't exactly expensive, but these were parts shipped by a company to a customer who had lost the original bits and therefore was not entitled to a free replacement, but that was exactly what I got.

So Michelin, thank you very much.  I now have a working tyre compressor and more importantly these days, a completely repairable device is now in use again, rather than in landfill, or being broken down into recyclable components.
